Rooms With a View

The Automobile Association of America (AAA) recently promoted The Fireside Motel in Yachats from a two diamond to a three diamond establishment. “Three diamond properties show a marked upgrade in physical attributes, services and comfort,” states the handbook for the AAA organization. The AAA evaluates member lodging facilities yearly in eight areas: exterior and grounds; public areas; room décor and ambiance; guest room amenities; bathrooms; housekeeping; management; and, guest services.

The Fireside Motel has been a fixture of the Yachats community for approximately 40 years, beginning with only eighteen rooms. The motel was named for the large fireplace located in the lobby. Guests gathered there in the evening for companionship and refreshments. The Roslund Company became the operators of The Fireside twenty-one years ago after a second wing was added. The new wing takes advantage of the spectacular view of the oceanfront property. Four more rooms and a suite were added in the eighties bringing the total number of rooms to 43. Room with a View. Among other things, the wood stoves were replaced with gas fireplaces, new carpets and drapes were installed, lighting was upgraded, and new wallpaper and paint was applied. However, the homey, comfortable feeling for which The Fireside is noted has been maintained. The Fireside has been a member of AAA for over 20 years, maintaining a two diamond status until this Spring. Copyright © November 29, 2001 by Judy Taylor
